Cairns International Airport

The Cairns International Airport has come a long way since its modest beginnings in 1928. Legend has it that a man named Tom McDonald started flying his Gypsy Moth off a sand ridge near the present Cairns Airport. He could only land and take off between high tides, and according the Cairns Airport website, during one emergency Tom was forced to take off from beer barrels! Today, the Cairns Airport has become the fifth busiest airport in Australia seeing over 3.5 million passengers go through its doors each year.

The popularity of the region prompted a $200 million redevelopment of their domestic terminal which has recently been completed. But if you've just arriving at the newly refurbished Cairns Airport and are looking to travel on to Port Douglas there are convenient options available to you.
