Our Story

As the owner/operator of Akula Sportfishing, I have over 30 years of professional marine experience, beginning my time on boats out of Mooloolaba on Qld’s Sunshine Coast. After obtaining my first marine qualifications I relocated to far north Queensland with the intention of a working holiday and 30 years later still have not left! Port Douglas is my forever home and I truly love everything the region has to offer and I love nothing more than showing people the fantastic fishing opportunities right on my own doorstep. Fishing charters are not just a business to me, it’s a lifestyle, and I still love nothing more than going fishing for myself on days off, and looking for new ground to share with our clients.

We care about the experience our clients receive, and we work hard to deliver the best we can. I get asked regularly what keeps me going, and the answer is quite simple. The looks of excitement on the faces of our clients, and the flow of adrenaline they receive when they boat that fish of a lifetime is what keeps me coming back day in, day out.

Powered by twin engines, AKULA ensures a fast, comfortable, and reliable ride to our unique destinations, boasting a range that allows us the ability to head further away than most. We can comfortably carry 8 passengers. We are equipped with top-of-the-line Garmin electronics, and we cruise at 26 knots so we get you to the fish fast!. Additionally, enjoy added comfort with our onboard stereo system.

6-Hour Outer Reef Private Charter – $1,250 (includes up to 5 guests)

Outer Reef – Shared Charter

6-Hour Outer Reef Shared Charter – $300 per person

Inshore Reef – Private Charter

4-Hour Inshore Reef Private Charter – $800 (includes up to 5 guests)
