The Douglas Business & Tourism Awards have once again highlighted the level of excellence in accommodation on offer that has made the region such a popular destination.

The awards are voted by the public and the 2019 winners in the six accommodation categories have proven they are some of the top locations around to base your Port Douglas Holiday

The Winner of Best Holiday Letting Agency, Executive Retreats, specialise in luxury holiday accommodation and destination wedding venues.

Heather Carle from Executive Retreats said their guests love to visit Port Douglas because of the rich natural wonders and they often return because of the relaxed vibe and friendly locals that make them feel right at home.

“The people and the places make it such a wonderful region,” Ms Carle said.

Executive Retreats offer a portfolio of beachfront houses and villas, resort-style apartments, and luxury and lifestyle retreats including their signature lifestyle property, Bali Hai, which also took out the Best Holiday Home or Private Villa at the awards.

“We have many return guests and have gained a reputation for an excellent standard of product and service over the years.”

Another forerunner in luxury is Niramaya Villas & Spa who took out the Best Luxury Accommodation award.

Niramaya is a boutique sanctuary of exclusive self-contained villas set amongst 15 hectares of lush tropical gardens.

Carrie Chiasson from Niramaya said their guests love Port Douglas because it offers the ultimate in a tropical getaway without having to physically leave the country.

“From our world-class tropical gardens to our award-winning Day Spa and Restaurant, to the fully-equipped Balinese-style villas, each with their own private pool, our visitors have everything they need to ensure they have the most relaxing and luxurious holiday,” Ms Chiasson said.

Moving into the heart of Port Douglas, the Winner of the Best Resort/Hotel Accommodation under 40 room is the Pavilions Boutique Holiday Apartments.

Alison Pheasant from the Pavilions said they believe people voted for them because their location in the centre of Port Douglas puts them in walking distance to everything as well as their ability to cater to all their guests personally to make their stay seamless.

The small boutique offers various sized apartments with spa baths, private balconies and a temperature-controlled pool.

Ms Pheasant added their guests continue to visit Port Douglas for the beautiful weather, the stunning scenery, and the friendly locals.

The next accommodation winner is the renowned Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas who took out Best Resort/Hotel Accommodation for over 40 rooms.

One of the original Port Douglas Resorts, the Sheraton is surrounded by 147 hectares of lush tropical gardens, two hectares of sparkling lagoons and an 18-hole golf course.

Offering suites and villas, some of which provide direct access to the saltwater lagoon, this resort has become an icon of the town.

For visitors to Port Douglas on the other end of the spectrum, there is the fun-loving, backpacker heaven, Dougies Backpacker Resort, which claimed the award for Best Low-Cost Accommodation.

Known for its relaxed vibes and party atmosphere, Dougies has become synonymous for Backpackers in Port Douglas.
