In 2026, travel seems less about ticking boxes and more about tuning in and there are few places better suited to this than
 Port Douglas.
This is a destination that naturally embraces JOMO, the Joy of Missing Out! Life slows beneath the ancient canopy of
the Daintree Rainforest, where time feels generous and nature sets the pace. Encounters with wildlife are unfiltered and APP
humbling, none more so than with the majestic Southern Cassowary, a powerful symbol of this region’s rare and fragile
 beauty.
It is for that reason I simply could not go past the stunning photograph of a cassowary gracing our cover this issue.
Captured by local tour guide and highly talented photographer Josephine Warnet, it is simply majestic!
Adventure here is often immersive rather than extreme. And surrounding yourself by water is blissful as the region shifts
into summer and autumn. Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, hike to freshwater waterfalls hidden deep in the rainforest, float gently along jungle-fringed
rivers, or join a cruise in search of crocodiles. All experiences that lead to wonder without the chaos.
Port Douglas also delivers quiet luxury in its accommodation offering. From architecturally designed modern homes and boutique resorts to barefoot
cabins and beachside glamping, stays here are about comfort, connection and character. Art and culture are woven into daily life. Local artist Rosie
Cummings transforms marine debris into striking works of woven art. Plan a visit to her Oak Beach studio, or one of the many other local artists, to
enjoy a uniquely personal experience. At Mossman Gorge, immersive cultural experiences with the Kuku Yalanji people invite visitors to learn about
 Country, culture and ancient knowledge.
Food and wellness are equally iconic. Port Douglas is synonymous with exceptional produce, world-class culinary talent, a long list of gourmet
experiences waiting to be consumed and a host of wellness ideas to nourish the soul, get you moving or just help you slip into a relaxed state of mind
and body. And when it’s time to add a little sparkle, Port Douglas Carnivale in May delivers, celebrating more than 30 years of colourful events and
community over a weekend not to be missed. Peruse Macrossan Street to find the perfect outfits to take you from the beach to lunch and the party at
the Savannah Sounds concert under the palms in our sunset park.
Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple, with friends, or bringing along your four-legged companion, Port Douglas welcomes all. The beauty of this
place is that you determine the pace. PORT

Whatever you choose, enjoy your time.
