AIR BARE:
The Sky’s The Limit
WORDS by Jamie Jansen
Minimalistic, unique and quirky. There is no better
description for the images Sarah Jenkins and daughter
Lucy Jenkins take using drone technology. Together they
started Air Bare, creating striking images from above with
interesting perspectives.
Air Bare was created at the end of 2020, when Sarah and Lucy
bought their first drone and took to the skies of Port Douglas.
The idea was born at the start of the pandemic, when Lucy -
who lives in Melbourne - escaped the big lockdown and mother
and daughter ended up in isolation together in Sarah’s house in
Port Douglas.
Introduced to drone photography by a family member, they
were both so impressed by the quality of the photography.
Inspired, they decided to buy one of their own not knowing that
only one year later they would win two awards in photography
and would have created a vibrant business.
“Neither of us had ever touched a drone, let alone taken photos
with it,” Sarah said. “Lucy initially flew, I didn’t want to touch
it, too frightened I might crash it. After a while though and
with Lucy’s continued encouragement I decided to have a go
and I loved it straight away.”
THE ARTIST AND THE ARCHITECT
With Sarah being a hobby artist and Lucy becoming an
architect, mother and daughter draw on each other’s strengths
to develop ideas. The pair share a passion for art, architecture,
design and photography.
Sarah said she has always loved painting: “I call myself an artist
because that is probably the best description for what I am doing
nowadays. I have done lots of things over the course of my life,
studying architecture for a year and then I went into nursing.
