note.
My grandma often said, “A change is as good as a holiday.”
As a child I would often think that this was an interesting thing to say. Getting up half an hour
earlier, riding to school instead of taking the bus and even rearranging your bedroom didn’t seem to
come close to a holiday! Holidays meant time off school, freedom to explore with friends, eventful
family road trips, beach days, no bedtime curfew, ice creams and the days seemed to last forever!
Returning to your normal everyday life, you felt refreshed, ready to tackle whatever the universe
was going to pivot your way. You also had a handful (not really an issue these days!) of questionable
photographs which featured fingers, the ground, and the occasional cracker of you sitting proudly
in your handmade sand dinghy with your newfound holiday friends. All of this made possible with
the tireless work of your dad and some buckets and spades. Thanks dad!
So, why not do yourself a favour and start planning! Where’s your next holiday? Naturally I am biased but Port Douglas and Far
North Queensland is a fantastic choice. Proudly listed as the first eco-tourism destination in Australia, the natural beauty of the
region alone is alluring. As soon as you hit the Great Barrier Reef Drive from the airport you see why this destination is special and
you begin to understand why local families and businesses have committed to keeping pristine this World Heritage listed area for all
to enjoy.
Arriving in the village, you immediately find yourself wanting to kick off your shoes and go exploring. The good news: We have made
it easy for you and in your accommodation, you will find a copy of the PORT DOUGLAS Magazine. So, while you are changing
into your thongs and admiring your sock tan lines, leaf through the pages to find your first port of call. We have the best the region
has to offer in food, shopping, wellness, tours, as well as plenty of ideas about what to do and what’s on. Let those adventures begin.
Passing down through the generations, I still feel that same excitement when I sit down to plan a holiday with my own family. And
sorry grandma, it did not take me long to appreciate. Small changes, while they may be good for productivity, holidays are simply
better! Travelling solo, as a couple or with family or friends, vacation life is special. Filling your days with good times and memories
are essential.
And the best thing? These memories last a lifetime!
So, whatever you choose to do,
Enjoy your time
