Deadlines - Some of us are driven by them, others prefer to ignore them. But ultimately, they
inherently find a way to weave themselves into our everyday lives. The best course of action? Book your
next holiday! Perfect! The positive endorphins now released, your planned escape from those day-to-
day commitments seems like the best idea you have had in a long time. In the fast-paced world in
which we live, the need to make time for ourselves is essential – of course it is. Time to reflect, to enjoy
life’s adventures, nourish our minds and body and spend quality time with those whom we love. Yes, it
is a wonderful idea! Time to plan and book (early) your next holiday to Port Douglas.
Every day I feel very fortunate to wake up in this heavenly part of the world. A place that, in 2019,
became the first Australian destination recognised as ECO certified. Now I could regale National
Parks and Australian icons, but this award is an acknowledgement of more than that. It is about the
attitude and awareness of our local businesses as they strive to offer great products, services and experiences, whilst only leaving a light
environmental footprint. Read more about our destination’s “Sustainability promise” (page 32).
The Douglas community is loving the vibe and enjoying seeing the playful ambience return to our holiday village. The natural
environment has continued to flourish with a little downtime and the locals are excited and grateful to welcome visitors back to our
slice of paradise. Rest assured, they are also mindful of customer service, as they continue to try and build their staffing levels back up to
cater to everyone. Yes, it’s true, your freshly prepared meal may take a few minutes longer to reach your table and your favourite shop,
tour or restaurant may be taking a well-earned rest day. All we ask is that you embrace the Port Douglas pace of life and remember you
are here to relax and soak up the atmosphere of the tropics.
Sincerely, thank you for supporting tourism and our community, it is appreciated. Now take the opportunity to strike up a conversation
with a fellow traveller or local, or perhaps try a new restaurant or experience. In true holiday spirit expand your horizons and add some
new lines to your favorites list. Kick off those shoes, switch off those devices and remember why you came to visit, as you soak up the
best of Port Douglas Daintree.
There is so much … or so little, to do.
Whichever holiday path you decide to follow, instead of running why not stroll and relish every little minute of your precious time
away from those pressing deadlines and …
Enjoy your time,
Sarah
