note.
Do you love where you live? I feel very fortunate to say: “Yes I do!”
Naturally there is the location. Waking up to clean air and beautiful tropical winter mornings that
make you want to spring out of bed to immerse yourself in some of our region’s most picturesque
spots. The beach at sunrise (thank you Andrew Caitens for our beautiful cover), a fresh-water dip, a
hike to higher ground, or simply enjoying your first cup of coffee in town soaking up the vibe of the
early morning risers getting ready for their day.
In essence, enjoying and loving where you are in the moment. Being present. This to me says living
…. and hopefully to you it says holiday!
Do you crave adventures, more me time, great food or are you happy to order a cocktail and make
plans poolside? The Port Douglas Magazine will show you the very best that our region has to offer
and you couldn’t ask for a better time of the year to indulge. Tropical glorious winters! They are the
best! And they have been designed for us to explore the great outdoors, enjoy dining alfresco, bare
feet and lazy beach days with our friends or family.
If it is romance you desire, take a peek at Paul and Yolaine’s intimate rainforest wedding for some
inspiration. That backdrop! The good news is that we have a host of beautiful locations and wedding
specialists to help bring your plans together and ensure your special day is one to remember.
On the events scene this year we welcome back a few of the regulars including Port Douglas Carnivale in May featuring the magical
Wonderland that can only be the Spiegeltent. An exciting new addition later on in the year, too, as the festival feel heads north with music
from Aussie country legends and emerging new talent live at Savannah in the Round. We can already feel a fun long weekend camping trip
coming together. Although, on second thoughts, glamping in one of their luxury bell tents looks very tempting, so maybe take a look before
you head to your storage to extract the contents of your second home.
People often ask me what lies at the heart of our town’s appeal?
Yes, we have the natural beauty, the beautiful climate, the laid-back lifestyle but the answer to this question is an easy one. It’s our community.
Like most tourist towns in Australia it has been an interesting year but one that has reiterated the importance of ‘being present’, redefining
our work life balance (a reason so many of us moved here), and the need to support each other. The Port Douglas Magazine is excited to share
the stories of some of our talented locals. We hope that you will enjoy the opportunity to meet them in person as you explore, eat and shop
locally doing as much, or as little, as you please. Now that says holidays.
Whatever you choose,
Enjoy your time
